Description:
I bought Cosmo when he was 18 mos as a barrel prospect for my then 13 year old daughter. She was barrel racing and her gelding was aging. Since then, she has entered high school and now puts in little to no effort into riding and so here we are. I am sorely disappointed as I have always known he is a great horse and will be incredible wherever his career takes him. He was sent off to be started when he was about 2.5 years. He was with this trainer for 11 months. During that time, he was hauled from Arizona to California multiple times with the trainer who was competing at various roping events and spent a good amount of time at a barrel racing facility. He has been to barrel races, done time onlies, been in the warm up arena, tied to the trailer and left alone. He has not been entered. He has been ridden and loaded into a trailer in the dark and been a good boy. Cosmo has not has his legs ran off nor has he been pushed to the limits. I value longevity in a horse over having them at top speed as a four year old. He has been brought along correctly and slowly, and is currently working on correctness in positioning and shaping around the barrels. He is looking for someone to continue is his education. He does not have any “vices” or quirks. He is a forward ride, but not. Spurs or not spurs, either is fine. He straight ties, cross ties, can be clipped, wormed, shots, bathes, loads etc. all the things you want a horse to do. He has no injuries, no maintenance. He is sound, healthy, and clean. When he came home, he got an extra dose of ground work with me and my hunter jumper trainer to get body control, haunches, shoulders, ribs, then work on the "scary" objects, tarps, bouncy balls, etc etc. He has had a lot of fun in his short life. Since she has not shown interest he has been ridden by lots of people including myself as I have a nice circle of horse people around me that help out since I lack the time. I am a jumper, not a barrel racer. Currently, he is being ridden 5 days a week. I have a barrel racer that comes out 3 times per week to work on his barrel training. He works on rating-speed up, slow down, speed up, slow down. Plays on the barrels, works on haunches, shoulder, transitions up and down. Has given us a few auto lead changes between barrels, so its in the works. I ride him on the weekends and work on his dressage work, along with some pole work and walking/trotting jumps. I would love for him to go to a dedicated performance home. He is well built, talented, and is bred right. He is a good boy, affectionate, easy on the ground, and good looking. He is currently turned out with four other geldings. He gets along with ALL horses. Everyone is his friend, he has that typical dopey gelding personality we all know and love. He loves my pony mare too, I think she is his favorite :) Not to be cliché, but he needs to go to a good home that is going to bring him along, not rush him, and give him a good career.
